I upgraded to a delux garden room voucher but the room we got wasn’t what I would call delux. I think we got one of the cosy garden rooms which was not what I believed we had paid for and was very disappointing.

The garden room was ideal for us, however the quiet might not suit those looking for a bit of nightlife, albeit the Joiner’s Arms is close by and is a good village pub.

Newton Hall was outstanding! Wonderful location, great service and excellent venue. We stayed in one of their Garden Rooms with a hot tub, which was modern, cosy and very comfortable! We had everything we needed with some added personal touches which made our stay feel extra special. We would go back in a heartbeat and already recommended it to friends and family!

Newton Hall is just what I expected and their garden rooms were beyond my expectation.
Room is gorgeous and relaxing and with the hot tub ready to go it was just what the doctor ordered. Having the Joiners Arms pub five minutes walk was perfect for us. Plus they cater for dogs - couldn’t fault a thing.

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my experience during a recent stay in one of your Garden Rooms on 16/2/2024. I had high expectations for my visit which was to celebrate a special occasion, but unfortunately, my experience fell far short of what I and my partner anticipated.
The offer booked via itison (see proof attached) was to include an “overnight stay for two in a deluxe garden room with hot tub, breakfast and Prosecco”. However, this sadly was not provided. As we were attending to commemorate a special occasion, and our stay booked for a Friday evening, we were extremely disappointed to not have been provided with this promised and paid for welcome drink, damping our celebrations, and causing unnecessary annoyance.
Also, there was only one small can of still water provided alongside a can of sparkling, which meant one of us was left without a refreshment as we do not like sparkling water. I do think it would be best to provide a choice for guests to reduce waste and ensure satisfaction. This basic amenity was sorely missed during our stay.
We were also alerted via phone call on the morning of the 16th February, that due to a power cut we would be unable to check in at the provided time of 3pm, and this time would be delayed by an hour. This was very inconvenience as we had both used annual leave at work to arrive by 3pm, which was now not needed for the new check in time. I also find it unsatisfactory that we were not offered any consolidation e.g., a complimentary drink in the bar, or an extended stay past the check-out time the following morning. This instead again left us short of the service we had paid for.
We also had the unfortunate disturbance of our stay of loud occupants in the neighbouring garden room. This consisted of screaming and shouting children and their guardians for approximately an hour. Unfortunately, this occurred after the manned hours of the Garden Room reception office and therefore when we called to report this disturbance, there was no answer. Therefore, again our evening and special celebrations were impacted.
The toiletries provided in the bathroom also were close to empty and therefore we both needed to use them sparingly to ensure there was plenty left for showering across our stay. The blinds in the bathroom were also unclean which was a shame as the cleanliness of the rest of the room and the décor was wonderful.
We were looking forward to spending a relaxing evening in the hot tub with a fire set in the chimnea but were shocked upon arrival to find the firewood outside and therefore damp. When we came to attempt to light a fire to keep warm in our outdoor space, as we expected, the wood would not light. Despite our best efforts we were unable to light a fire and enjoy another expected element of our stay with yourselves.
We had read that there was a path direct to the Joiners Arms which we could use to access the restaurant for our evening meal. However, we were not alerted to where this was upon checking in, nor could we find how to access this in the check-in information provided in the room. Upon leaving our room and making our way to the Joiners Arms for our 8pm reservation we were shocked to find how poorly lit the access was. We ended up walking along the main road for both journeys which was pitch black and dangerous due to the speed of passing traffic and left us feeling very unsafe.
The following morning, in clear daylight, we still were unable to see any signage directing us to the path to the Joiners Arms and again we unfortunately needed to walk unsafely along the main road. After breakfast we saw another couple take a path off the main road and decided to follow them, hoping this would direct us back to the Garden Rooms. However, we were very unsure as the path was still not marked, no fencing either side and no signage. This uncertainty intensified when we passed through a gate with a code and lock attached leading us through a caravan park. We decided to continue, hoping we were not disturbing anyone or trespassing but thankfully arrived back at the Garden Room grounds.
Another issue which tarred our stay was during our meal at the Joiners Arms, another diner allowed her dog off the lead and to roam around the restaurant throughout our meal, without any members of the Joiner’s Arms staff asking them to put the dog on the lead. This was very unsettling and caused an uneasy atmosphere in the restaurant amongst all of the diners. Also, as we were leaving the Joiners Arms on the Saturday morning after our breakfast, the same diner was allowing the same thing to occur, as well as letting her dog sit on the furniture. As dog owners ourselves, we would never act so disrespectfully to other consumers. I am sure most “dog-friendly” establishments require dogs to be kept on a short lead and not to be on furniture, therefore I am shocked no members of Joiners Arm’s staff provided this information to this customer. Thankfully they were sat in a different part of the restaurant, but as we were leaving we almost tripped over the dog, which was wandering around due to a lack of care from their owner. Yet I must say our meals and the service at the Joiners Arms was great, but it is a shame we could not relax and fully enjoy our experience.
I believe all the above issues significantly marred our stay at your establishment, and our celebrations.
I hope you address these concerns promptly to ensure that future guests do not have to endure similar disappointments.
I trust that you take feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to maintain the high standards that guests expect from your establishment.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon regarding next steps to rectify the issues we experienced during our disappointing stay which dampened our celebrations and did not provide the experience we expected or paid for in these unsettling times of a cost-of-living crisis.

The hotel had no booking for us when we arrived. They said they have problems with itison vouchers. We were lucky that there had been a cancellation that morning or we would not have been able to stay.
They were accommodating whilst trying to sort out and gave us complimentary drinks.
Our original booking was cancelled, they said they could see I cancelled it. This was not correct, I believe they cancelled it.
It was a great stay however could have been a different story if they didn’t have a room available

Everything was really good. Check in was really easy and choice of breakfast was excellent including the fact you could get a grab bag delivered to your room if you didn't want to go out. Rooms were really cosy would definitely stay again.

Garden room was spot on and we were upgraded to a family room, therefore we had plenty of space and good facilities. Only down side to the room was that the hot tub wasn't that private. The breakfast at the joiners arm was very nice and a good pub to visit for food on an evening.
