The system of waiting in a queue to be taken to a table for breakfast was like being treated as children. Embarrassing. Getting toast and beverage first, and then the wait until we had finished our cereal before they took our cooked breakfast order was annoying. The toast became soft and we had another wait for the cooked food!
The staff were lovely, the room and en-suite were clean, spacious and tidy.
We enjoyed the sunshine and view over Lake Windermere on the outdoor decking.

We have stayed here twice before here and have sent three other couples including my parents . What more can I say. The atmosphere in the lounge is classy and very relaxed with background music ambient lighting and antiques to draw the eye . It has as its name suggests “old English charm” you feel as though you are un a very grand house with exceptional views . The bedrooms are amazing too and in keeping with the old English charm with exception as okay comfortable beds. The breakfast is great and the only minor change would be to bring the toast with the breakfast rather than before it . Staff accommodation ,pool, decor, location , excellent !

Had a great experience on the whole when staying at the Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa. Room was lovely, clean and spacious, spa was great & all staff very receptive.
Could have done with some better communication in the week leading up to the stay with some difficulties getting in touch with the hotel. Additionally requested an upgrade but did not hear back to confirm or deny by the hotel and there was no confirmation upon arrival.

We had a very relaxing time. One or two things that let it down was spa closed at 6:30 would like to see it open until 8pm. Be prepared to pay £20 a night for car park.
